Miniatures: ‘Painting for Ants’

mini17South African miniaturist Lorraine Loots is celebrated for her remarkable ability to create these highly detailed thumb-sized works with the naked eye.

The 1×1″ watercolors began with Loots’ two-year mission to complete a piece a day for a year, starting in 2013 with 365 Paintings for Ants.

Since then, she’s captured a huge following.  Three Kings Studio where she has exhibited says part of the appeal is Loots reinvented the 18th Century diminutive art form of miniatures for the Instagram age.

Very well done!! For some reason I am now thinking about building ships in bottles, and the Lord’s prayer on the head of a pin. Kudos!
