Shaun Ellison’s solo exhibition (at Anna Zorina Gallery) was inspired by a trip to the Caribbean island of Tobago.

His  paintings  feature what the gallery calls “powerful harmonies  of  bold  color that instill the works with a distinctive optical vibration” characteristic of the Caribbean.

As a visitor, Ellison was never able “to achieve a feeling of being completely engaged,” notes for the exhibition say. His feeling of being an outsider translates into “loose generalizing strokes of tones often layered to create a distorted perception.”

It does feel distant, his “distorted perception” works for me personally as it is a distant shore. The colors warm me, even in the cool of the waterfall. The last painting here is splendid!
