Michael Vollbracht: Art of Fashion Design

michael-2Michael Vollbracht’s art is as diverse as his background. On exhibition currently at Wally Findlay Galleries, Palm Beach, he is an accomplished artist, a distinguished fashion designer, a published author and an international illustrator. Vollbracht has worked on the design teams of Geoffrey Beene and Donald Brooks, and was the in-house illustrator for Henri Bendel and the retail giant Bloomingdale’s. (Mixed Cultures – Oil on canvas, 60 x 48″)

michael-3In 1979, he launched Michael Vollbracht Ltd, known for its graphic prints, and earned the prestigious Coty American Fashion Critics Award for Designer of the Year. In 1985, Vollbracht gained critical acclaim for his book “Nothing Sacred,” a visual memoir and diary of his 25 years in New York. (Resting on Matisse – Oil on canvas, 48 x 60″)


Vollbracht also was named the artistic director of Bill Blass Ltd. in 2002 after Blass died. Vollbracht had coordinated the retrospective on Blass’s work. Vollbracht has since returned to his personal art, full-time, and is based in Florida. (Above: Lindsay and Friends – Oil on canvas, 84 x 49″)
