Never underestimate the power of reality TV. The Spike network is running a “Last Family on Earth” competition for a spot in one of the Vivos network’s underground bunkers. The finale occurs Dec. 21, the date the Mayan civilization allegedly predicted an apocalypse. (See apocalypse debunked, in this previous post)
Vivos is a global network of bunkers described as luxury protection from war, asteroids, lethal climate change and other cataclysms. Shelters are for groups of up to 1,000, but there are also cushier, private quarters available. One of the marketing slogans is: “What side of the door do you want to be on?” in an apocalypse.
In the show, families demonstrate survival skills by competing in doomsday scenarios including a “pandemic, global government or economic collapse, nuclear war, reactor meltdowns, solar flares, massive asteroid, a pole shift, cataclysmic earthquakes and widespread anarchy,” Spike said in a press release. A judging panel of survival experts with input from viewers will decide which family is eliminated each week.
