The Park Avenue Armory’s new installation by internationally recognized artist Ann Hamilton, revered for the sensory surrounds of her large-scale, multi-media installations, is making waves — waves from sound (a new recording every night) and waves of billowing fabric. The installation consists of 42 swings, a large billowing cloth and live elements including readings, sound and 42 homing pigeons.
On through Jan 6, 2013, the Event of a Thread reflects the architecture and social history of the Armory, with a field of swings suspended like pendulums from the drill hall trusses. The installation incorporate readings, sound, and other live elements that animate the 55,000-square-foot space. See more on Ann Hamilton’s website, here.
